Martin to Speak on Avoiding Legal Landmines for HR Professionals
Laurie Martin, partner with Hoover Hull Turner LLP, will present two sessions at NBI’s June 14, 2017 seminar, “Avoiding HR Legal Landmines.” Martin will discuss Hiring, Firing, and Discipline Missteps, including job description errors, interview and background check compliance, avoiding pitfalls in discipline and discharge, and navigating use of waivers and releases. Martin will also present on Internal Investigation Landmines, discussing issues relating to timing, bias, confidentiality, documentation, and attorney-client privilege to assist employers to conduct thorough and effective internal investigations. Topics covered by other presenters include employee handbook liabilities, FLSA compliance including misclassification of independent contractors, FMLA leave administration issues, discrimination and harassment, and liability concerns relating to holiday parties and special events.
